Principal, Mr. Purvis Jackson
Mr. Purvis R. Jackson is entering his 26th year in education. As the son of retired educators, Mr. Jackson gained a love and appreciation for the profession at an early age. Woodland High School is the 9th school in which Mr. Jackson has served. His wealth of experience and knowledge has prepared him to take on this awesome responsibility.
The youngest of three sons, Mr. Jackson hails from Jackson, Mississippi, where he graduated from Forest Hill High School in 1994. His undergraduate experience spans two institutions, Coahoma Community College and Albany State University. Mr. Jackson completed his graduate studies at ASU and Cambridge College in Boston, Massachusetts. Throughout his educational career, Mr. Jackson has held many positions and earned several accolades, including Teacher of the Year in 2007. His administrative career began at Union Grove Middle School in 2008 as an assistant principal. He was selected to open Locust Grove High School as an assistant principal one year later. After serving at LGHS for three years, Mr. Jackson was named the 7th principal of Stockbridge Middle School in July, 2012. Throughout his five-year tenure, Stockbridge Middle School grew tremendously due to a collaborative effort with all stakeholders. One of the many highlights of his tenure was the nearly ten point increase SMS experienced with their CCRPI score. Mr. Jackson began serving the Hampton Middle School community in 2017, where he assisted with continuing a five-year trend of CCRPI growth.
Mr. Jackson firmly believes the key to having a great school is to “treat people like you want to be treated”. This philosophy has helped him succeed as a college student-athlete, as a paratrooper in the United States Army, and as a mathematics educator. Personally, Mr. Jackson is married, and he is the father of three daughters, ages 14, 9, and 6.
